This year, the Poland Boys tennis season started a little late. Various thunderstorms canceled the first few games. The weather here in Poland was not cooperating for the boys tennis team.
The team finally played their first game in Mentor, Ohio, and that game was an absolute thriller.
Andrew Aey had a competitive opponent. Mentor’s first singles player is a division 1 state player. Their game went into extra matches and Aey ended up taking his first loss in high school tennis. However, in the the second and third singles Carter Iberis and Parker Ogden, respectively, won their matches. The first and second doubles teams also upset mentor’s doubles teams. Poland won the match 4-1
Poland then headed to Struthers for their second match-up and headed out of their winning 5-0 with a clean sweep. Junior Luca Carchedi replaced Arjun Tuli in the first Doubles match, paired with Salvi Caramusa and won their match.
Poland then played their first home match against Niles McKinley. The Bulldogs took home the win against Niles McKinley winning 5-0 again with a clean sweep. This game was the Bulldogs second conference win. Salvi Caramusa and Arjun Tuli’s match took almost two hours, but they did take home the win.
Poland’s most recent match was against Heartland Christian, and Andrew Aey had his second tough opponent of the year. Andrew faced off against Junior Cooper Grimm of Heartland Christian, and Grimm delivered Aey his second loss of the year. Again, the Bulldog’s singles and doubles teams all won their matches. The score of the match was 4-1.
The Bulldogs have Senior Night on April 29 against Struthers, where the four seniors of the team will be honored.
In an interview with Senior Liam Corey, he shared how he feels about Senior Night.
“ I’d be starting my first game of the season; I hope I don’t get put into doubles,” and “I prefer to play singles because I have more control over the ball.”
We wish the Poland Boys Tennis Team good luck throughout the rest of the season.
