In a world often dominated by screens and rigid academic schedules, the Outdoor Club is offering students a much-needed escape into nature—and the benefits are resonating throughout the student body.
According to Mr. Morocco, a guidance counselor who attended the outing with the Outdoor Club, said it provides a welcome break from the mental pressures of school.
Morocco said, “It’s a good way for students to get out of their heads and enjoy nature, especially when school days can be rigid.”
Mrs. Monteiro, a science teacher who joined the trip, highlights how outdoor excursions help students unplug from social media and foster genuine, face-to-face communication.
Mrs. Monteiro said, “Most students involved in the Outdoor Club are in science classes or have Mrs. Smith,” she notes, emphasizing the club’s educational component.
Participants learn about rock formations and the region’s water history, combining hands-on learning with the thrill of discovery.
Mrs. Monteiro encourages all students to consider joining the club: “You get out in nature, go on hikes, have fun, and become part of a social group.”
Mrs. Monteiro reflects fondly on the latest adventure: “I enjoyed it so much—I accomplished a little over five miles. I liked getting to go out to eat after and watch students laugh and enjoy communicating with one another.”
The Outdoor Club stands as a testament to the power of fresh air, friendship, and learning beyond the classroom walls.
