The Spanish and Italian Clubs recently joined forces for their annual Tacos and Tiramisu event. It was held after school in the cafeteria on February 27. The Spanish Club provided taco ingredients for the main dish, and the Italian Club provided tiramisu for dessert.
Each year, this event remains both the Spanish and Italian clubs largest, filling the cafeteria with students. Around 200 students showed up making this the event’s best showing yet! Both clubs officers led by teachers Mrs. Ditomasso (Italian) and Mrs. Latronica (Spanish) spent weeks curating the event to make sure each student felt represented.
Although the event’s biggest draw is definitely the superb ethnic dishes, students use the event to socialize with peers and meet new students! Both clubs host many other events throughout the year to benefit specific causes, and Tacos and Tiramisu allows both groups to come together and recognize this hard work.
Mrs. Latronica reiterated this when I spoke with her.
Mrs. Latronica said, “I do it as an “appreciation” event for all of my club members. It brings the Spanish and Italian Clubs together and is a great way for the world language students to interact with each other.”
Mrs. Ditomasso said, “Tacos and Tiramisu is an opportunity for the two clubs to get together and share cuisine from our respective cultures. It might also be a time where students can experience new food.”
Overall, this event is widely successful each year and provides a safe environment for students to socialize and share their cultures while recognizing both clubs’ cumulative success.
