As most of you know, the State Mandated ACT Test will be taking place at the high school for juniors on February 25th. The test will start at 7:30 am. All other high school students will have an online day with the junior high having a normal in-person school day!
With the test coming up soon, we thought we would give you some tips on how to perform your best on the ACT!
First off are some general things you are probably already planning on doing. Make sure you get sufficient sleep the night before by going to bed early, as well as eating a healthy breakfast in the morning to make sure you have energy to put into the test!
Make sure you’re prepared! Bring everything you need to bring, such as a Number 2 pencil and your ID. I recommend bringing a water bottle and a snack to eat during your break. Studying by completing practice problems or doing practice tests is also very helpful towards getting the best scores possible!
During the test, make sure you manage your time accordingly. You are given only a certain amount of time for each section of the test and you cannot go back to a previous section after that time is done. You also cannot move forward into other sections until the time is up and you are given verbal permission from a proctor. Moving at a steady pace is necessary if you want to complete each section, but in the case you don’t finish, make sure to put your best guess on any question you didn’t have time to focus on.
Last but not least, try not to let the test confuse you! The ACT is not a test that includes concepts a junior wouldn’t know. It is a pretty standard test and is truly not as difficult as it seems. It appears harder than it actually is because of the strange and often confusing wording of the questions. My advice would be to try to take each question at face value and not overthink it. The more you overthink what the question is asking of you the more time you waste. Just read each question carefully and listen to your first instinct of how to answer.
Hopefully these tips will help you do your best on your ACT! Good luck!
