The Speech and Debate team just wrapped up the season and we saw many team members qualify for States and even Nationals!
The Speech and Debate team is coached by Spencer Humphreys, and he led five members to state. Those members being; Rashmeet Kaur, Alex Zisis, Rowan Downie, Jasmeet Kaur, and Arjun Tuli.
In an interview with Arjun Tuli about States, Tuli said, “This year, I personally performed well. The tournament has three rounds: prelims, semis, and finals. I felt confident and performed my best for the first two rounds, but messed up during the last couple minutes of the final which impacted my performance greatly.”
Tuli specializes in congressional debate, which is a mock legislative assembly competition.
Tuli said that his specialty in the congressional debate is to speak late.
“I specialize in late round speaking. I prefer speaking later instead of earlier in the debate because I get to use more granular argumentation and rhetoric isn’t needed as much,” said Tuli.
Speech and debate provides many unique opportunities that other school events do not offer.
“The communication skills and friendships I have made through this event are priceless. I encourage everyone to join the team,” said Tuli
We wish the speech and debate team good luck at Nationals, and we also hope that the team does well for the seasons in the future!
