Last year, the Poland Girl’s Lacrosse Team had a strong winning record of 13-4. They had multiple big wins including those against Boardman, and Louisville. Two of the team’s biggest components, twins, Lucy and Kate Harell graduated leaving the midfield position barren. Seniors, Lauren Cordek, and Sophia Elia look to replace this leadership and keep up the record this season. Last season marked massive improvement for the team as it was their first winning season in school history.
Sophomore, Aurelia Cook reflected on last season’s stellar record and made goals for the upcoming season.
Cook said, “Our biggest accomplishment is our record of most wins in a season last year. An improvement we could make is just overall putting in more effort outside of practice to assure we don’t fall short in this upcoming season.”
In the upcoming season, the girls are tasked with a challenging schedule this year. They play teams including Canfield, Boardman, Aurora, and Holy Name. Last season, the girls took on each of these teams with determination, and when they lost, it was only by an average margin of two goals per game. Canfield seemed to have been the toughest of these teams for they beat the Lady Bulldogs twice and by the biggest points margin (six goals).
Sophomore Alexandra Loftus, reiterated this when she explained the rivalry and hunger the team possesses when playing Canfield.
Loftus said, “Canfield beat us countless times over the last few years and were excited for the challenge.”
Going into the new season, the team has expressed their excitement, open-mindedness, and their optimism for the challenges. We wish the girls luck this season and predict a bright season ahead!
